The team at Untied Tongue Tie Center believe in offering the highest quality and best care for their patients. That is why we only use the best laser in the field for soft tissue- a CO2 laser. The CO2 laser uses a wavelength of 10.6 micrometers which is universally regarded as the best suited wavelength for soft tissue surgery. This wavelength’s excellent absorption for soft tissue allows it to both cut/ ablate and coagulate on the margins of the cut/ ablation. 

 

There are many approaches to releasing the tissue including releasing with scissors, scalpel, a diode (hot) laser or a CO2 laser. Releasing with scissors or scalpel can be painful, cause a lot of bleeding and has the highest reattachment rate of all the options. A diode laser is a hot glass tip that releases the tissue causing a burn- you will see charring and typically has higher post op pain and sometimes scarring.  

 

A CO2 laser vaporizes the intra and extra cellular water in the cells of the tissue. The doctors researched many lasers of this kind to find the best in this field. The CO2 laser used at Untied is the only laser of its kind in Southern California. Our laser is a cold, non-touch laser. This type of laser allows sealing of the blood vessels during treatment so your child experiences minimal to no bleeding, minimal discomfort during and after the procedure and a quickened healing process. The laser sterilizes the wound during treatment so the risk of infection is very minimal.
